Alabama Football: 2021 NFL mock draft after the Super Bowl
By Dakota Cox
6. Philadelphia Eagles: Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
The Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of needs, and they likely won’t solve them all in just one draft. However, the gaping hole in the offense is the lack of a true weapon.
Many will believe that Chase is the top receiver in this year’s draft, and he still goes in the top 10 of my draft. Philly isn’t sure what they are doing at quarterback, but Chase could help whoever is under center. He is explosive, and he has great separation. He is more aggressive than you would think for a receiver of his size, and he will succeed if he is drafted to the right team.
It hurts to draft a receiver this high immediately after drafting a receiver in the first round last year, but you can’t bank on Jalen Reagor. He struggled as a rookie, and he does not appear to have what it takes to be the top target in Philly. If you avoid drafting a receiver just because you drafted one last year, you are looking at sunk costs. That is the first rule of bad business, and the Eagles should avoid doing so.
Philadelphia might also address the offensive line or secondary, but you have to think that they are looking to put their quarterback in a situation to succeed. Chase does that, and he might be catching balls from former Alabama football quarterback Jalen Hurts.
