Alabama football’s former quarterback hit the weight room
Tua Tagovailoa has been known for his touch, leadership and accuracy since his days with Alabama football. Now, he might just be known for his athleticism.
After a rookie season that put the Dolphins one win away from making the NFL Playoffs, Tua has been putting in work to prepare for his second year in the NFL. While we haven’t seen videos, he released a few photos from his latest workout, and he clearly looks like he gained muscle.
This will be Tua’s first healthy offseason in a long time. Last summer, he was still recovering from the hip injury he suffered during his Alabama football days. He has also had lingering injuries that range from his hand to his ankle, so he rarely gets to work on something that isn’t rehabbing.
Still, Tua Tagovailoa looks as if he’s prepared for his sophomore season in the NFL. He seems to have gained muscle and tone in both his arms and legs, which will be helpful as he prepares for the 2021 season. Two major knocks on him as a rookie were that he didn’t throw the deep ball and was unable to extend plays with his legs. Adding arm strength and speed will help him develop into a franchise quarterback.
Still, Alabama football fans aren’t sure where Tua will play his next snap of football. The Dolphins have been linked to the Deshaun Watson trade rumors, and Tua would almost certainly head to the Texans in that scenario. This remains unlikely as of right now, but it is worth keeping an eye on as the season approaches.
Wherever Tua plays, he appears ready for a sophomore surge. With a healthy offseason where he can actually work with teammates instead of having virtual team meetings, he will improve on many facets of his game. This is part of the reason why the Miami Dolphins should stick with Tua.
Fans shouldn’t take a lot from these photos, but there are plenty of reasons to be hopeful about how 2021 will go for Tua Tagovailoa.
