Alabama Basketball: Arkansas’s sad plan to heckle Josh Primo
By Dakota Cox
This won’t disrupt Alabama basketball’s stud freshman
In hostile environments, college athletes have to prepare for the worst. Alabama basketball fans take pride in the environment in Coleman Coliseum, but other SEC fanbases have plans to disrupt the Tide on the road.
Alabama’s next game is against the Arkansas Razorbacks, and their fans have a plan to distract Josh Primo, the Tide’s star freshman. Let’s just say that we’ve seen better. Josh Teeter, a Hogs fan, tweeted an image regarding how to react when Josh Primo saw the ball. He later deleted the tweet, but not before an Alabama basketball fan took a screenshot.
As you can see, they want Primo to have the “worst day of his life.” They will do so by booing him every time he touches the ball, singing his national anthem when he shoots free throws and commenting on his family.
In the text of the tweet, Teeter said, “He is not making it out alive.”
This is obviously disturbing, but it is also sad. Let’s set aside the problematic statements about his safety and his family. Instead, let’s simply focus on the details of this fan’s plan. They want to boo Josh Primo every time he touches the ball, which is something fan bases should already be doing when your team is on defense. Also, I’m not sure how singing “Oh Canada” will distract him as he gets to the free-throw line.
The comments about his stats need a little context. Primo is not the primary scorer for Alabama basketball, but that is because of the talent around him. If he were playing on a weaker team like Arkansas, he would likely be in the double figures every night. After all, he is shooting over 40% from three and drained six perimeter shots against LSU earlier this season.
Disregarding this plan, Primo has a lot to prove against Arkansas. He struggled as a shooter against them earlier this year, and Alabama basketball is looking to clinch the regular-season SEC title tonight.
Needless to say, Primo’s performance won’t be heavily impacted by the crowd. It surely won’t be impacted by this fan’s plan. If anything, it will be used as motivation.
