Worst landing spots for Alabama football’s Jaylen Waddle
2. Detroit Lions
Detroit has a terrible history with star players. In fact, the Lions have driven some players to early retirement. They had one of the best receivers in the history of the NFL, and they still failed to succeed.
They might have a new coaching staff, but there is no reason to think that everything is trending up in Detroit. After all, they just traded away their franchise quarterback. They got Jared Goff in return, but Goff isn’t a long-term solution. He will be the guy until his contract runs out, but there is no reason to believe that he will get an extension.
Also, Waddle doesn’t fit well with Goff’s style of play. He doesn’t buy time in the pocket or rely on his arm strength. Waddle would succeed with short routes, but Detroit will limit Waddle as a deep-ball receiver.
Waddle would still have his abilities as a punt returner, but the subtraction of Matthew Stafford makes this one of the worst places for any young receiver to land.
The only good thing about the Lions is that they draft in the top 10. If Waddle goes here, he will receive quite the payday. Maybe that would make this terrible situation worth it to Waddle, but that’s the only good thing about the Detroit Lions.
