Alabama football receivers prefer Mac Jones to Tua

At the Senior Bowl, DeVonta Smith commented that he preferred Mac Jones to Tua Tagovailoa. This caused Alabama football’s Jaylen Waddle to be asked a similar question, and he gave the same answer.

Waddle said on NFL Now that he prefers Mac Jones to Tua, and he gave specific reasons. While both Waddle and Jones were underclassmen, they worked together in practice. Waddle honed his skills by catching balls from Mac Jones at Alabama football practices.

When Smith’s comments swirled around, it made sense. After all, Mac Jones is working on his NFL Draft status right now. Anything that boosts him up can help him make millions of more dollars. Smith realized this, and Waddle clearly does as well. If they asked if they preferred Patrick Mahomes or Mac Jones, they’d probably say Jones.

In fact, Tua Tagovailoa himself gave high praise to Mac Jones. When asked about Jones, he said he compared him to Tom Brady, but said that he was more mobile. Brady is obviously the greatest NFL player of all time, but his one weakness is a lack of mobility. Tua saying this about Mac Jones speaks volumes. Even if it is just fluff for his NFL draft stock, it matters that his former teammates are so willing to risk their reputation for the sake of Jones.

Will this help boost Jones’s stock? Who knows. This could easily help him be drafted in the top 10. It might have no impact on where he goes. Only time will tell. However, teams will do all sorts of research before making a decision on him. That includes talking to Alabama football’s coaches and teammates about him.

Mac Jones needs all of the help he can get. Team fit matters with him, and there is stiff competition at quarterback. If Waddle’s comments help Jones be drafted above Justin Fields or Trey Lance, he’ll owe Waddle some money.
