Alabama football players who exceeded 3 star ranking: 9. Antoine Caldwell

  • Montgomery, AL
  • Center (2004-2008)
  • 2004 Recruit Ranking: No. 751 in the Nation
  • 2005 Freshman All-SEC
  • 2005 Freshman All-American
  • 2006 All-SEC Second Team
  • 2007 Rimington Watch List
  • 2008 All-SEC First Team
  • 2008 Consensus All-American

Antoine Caldwell redshirted in 2004 solely because he broke his foot in fall camp. He became a starter as a redshirt freshman in 2005, first at guard and later at center.

Caldwell was a steady and physical presence for Alabama football, toiling through three difficult seasons from 2005-2007.

The recognition that speaks volumes about Antoine Caldwell is that he was chosen a permanent captain by his teammates in 2007 and 2008. Only seven other players in Alabama football history have been honored by being named multi-season permanent captains.

Antoine was drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2009 NFL Draft. He played four seasons for the Texans, appearing in 39 games and making 19 starts.

In 2013 Antoine signed with the Buffalo Bills but did not make the team’s regular-season roster. In 2014, Caldwell signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars but again he was not added to the team’s regular-season roster.
