NFL teams that should trade for Alabama football’s Julio Jones

2. Miami Dolphins

Trading Julio Jones to the Miami Dolphins makes sense for both teams. This would send him to the AFC, and the Dolphins have the capital to make this happen. They have offloaded contracts recently, so they have cap space to go after some key free agents and trade targets.

Due to previous trades, Miami has enough capital to trade picks for Jones without giving up leverage in the 2021 NFL Draft. However, none of that matters if the fit doesn’t work, so why does this make sense for the Dolphins?

Let’s assume that they are going to stick with Alabama football‘s Tua Tagovailoa. To win with Tua, they need weapons on offense. They will address this with the draft, but adding a proven veteran would help evaluate the quarterback.

This would also open up the possibility of drafting Penei Sewell in the first round. That would give Tua a proven weapon on the outside and a solid cornerstone to his offensive line.

Miami knows that it will take a big splash to beat Buffalo in the AFC East. Would that be trading for Deshaun Watson? Maybe. If not, trading for Julio and drafting the other needs makes sense.

This would eliminate the need to draft Alabama football’s DeVonta Smith, but they could take a receiver later in the draft to play the slot. Players like Rondale Moore will be available.
