Alabama Football: Former Tide 5-star enters transfer portal again
By Dakota Cox
This is the second stint in the transfer portal for this former Alabama football recruit.
While fans want every Alabama football player to pan out, the sheer numbers make that impossible. With so many recruits and so few spots in the starting lineup, some players have to transfer to get an opportunity. Others have to transfer for a variety of reasons, and that’s what happened to Antonio Alfano. After transferring to Colorado, he has once again found himself in the transfer portal.
Alfano was one of the highest-rated recruits in Alabama football history, but he didn’t see the field with the Crimson Tide. After transferring to Colorado, he enlightened fans by telling them about his battle with epilepsy.
Alfano was also arrested on two misdemeanor accounts while he was on Colorado’s team. At the time of this report, it was said that Alfano was not currently practicing with the team.
Alfano chose to play for Colorado partially because of his relationship with Mel Tucker. Tucker used to be a defensive backs coach for Alabama football after multiple stints of coaching under Nick Saban. After becoming Georgia’s defensive coordinator, he took the head coaching job in Colorado. He is now the head coach of Michigan State. The Spartans struggled in 2020 with him in charge.
At this point, Antonio Alfano needs a major turnaround to get his football career back on track. He was expected to thrive in Tuscaloosa, but circumstances off of the field kept him from succeeding. At this point, it’s not a guarantee that he will play in the Power 5.
Alabama football fans are still rooting for Alfano. Some of what has caused him to fail is out of his control. If he can regain his health and find the right home, he might be able to salvage his college football career. That being said, he is running out of opportunities to succeed.
