25. Jacksonville Jaguars: Christian Barmore, IDL, Alabama

The Jacksonville Jaguars have one of the worst rosters in college football, but they have enough draft capital to make a significant change in a short amount of time. However, they need to hit on almost every draft choice in Urban Meyer’s first year.

For the Jaguars, that means they need to look at blue-blood schools and draft high-floor prospects. That could easily lead them to take the 2020 sack leader for Alabama football.

Christian Barmore has a great first step, and his size disrupts the interior of the defensive line. Early in his Alabama football career, he was only able to be used in passing situations. As he developed, he became able to impact the trenches in every situation.

Interior defensive linemen don’t get enough credit for what they do. On running plays, they can muddy the trenches and force a back to bounce outside. When a quarterback is in the pocket, the hardest pressure to evade comes from up the middle. Barmore can do these two things at a high level, and it will be crucial for the Jaguars.

Jacksonville has to worry about Alabama football’s Derrick Henry twice a year. In previous seasons, they relied on defensive pressure to sack quarterbacks and limited running backs. With a few trades, the core of their defense is all but gone. Because of this, they can rebuild with Barmore up the middle.
