New Orleans adds to the secondary

28. New Orleans Saints: Kelvin Joseph, CB, Kentucky

It is so hard to figure out who New Orleans would take in a 2021 NFL mock draft. They have massive quarterback issues with no known solution. Despite cutting multiple players, they still have massive salary cap issues. They are also old at a few key positions. While their roster seems ready to win a Super Bowl if things go right, they have no clear direction, and we won’t know until we see what they do in free agency.

I couldn’t justify trading up for Alabama football’s Mac Jones despite how great a fit that would be. With them already struggling with the salary cap, they need to take advantage of the draft capital they have. So, I instead have them taking the best corner on the board.

Kelvin Joseph started his college football career with LSU, but he transferred to Kentucky. With his one eligible year with the Wildcats, he thrived. His toughest test was against Alabama football’s receivers, and DeVonta Smith didn’t have a catch against him.

This might be a little early for Joseph, but the value of corners increases every year. With the Saints having to worry about the Falcons and Bucs, quality corners are crucial.

In this mock, Joseph heads back to the state of Louisiana and plays for the Saints.
