Miami supports Tua with an Alabama football legend

3. Miami Dolphins: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

This is where things get interesting. Miami has the third overall pick thanks to a previous trade with the Texans, but they have a lot of options. They could use this pick and others to trade for Watson. With so many teams looking to draft a quarterback, Miami could trade back. However, I have them staying put and taking DeVonta Smith.

Smith has all of the traits that NFL offenses are looking for. He’s not the fastest, but his long strides help him cover space. He has field awareness and elite route-running skills, and his hands are the best in this draft class.

This would pair Smith with his former Alabama football quarterback. Tua and Smith had great success together, and they would grow together through their rookie contracts on their way to NFL success.

If Miami wants to build around Tua, they should give him weapons. They could also consider Ja’Marr Chase, but I simply believe that Smith is the better prospect. Chase’s pro day might change this evaluation, but Smith has what Miami is looking for on and off of the field. He also worked with the Dolphins at the Senior Bowl, so they have a better idea of who Smith can be in the NFL.

Alabama football fans want Tua to have a Tide receiver, and this is the most likely scenario as of now.
