The Crimson Tide got some payback when Arkansas came to Tuscaloosa in January 1992. The Tide won 65-63, taking its season record to 12-1. Another SEC Championship was not to be in 1992, but the Tide went into the NCAA Tournament as a 5-seed with a 25-8 record.

Alabama Crimson Tide 80 – Stanford Cardinal 75

Stanford had 18 wins and was an underrated 12-seed. The Crimson Tide had the edge in every team stat, but could not put Stanford away until late. the first half score was 35-31 and the final margin was largely determined by the Tide getting to the foul line for seven more free throws than the Cardinal. Not many fouls were called and just eight Tide turnovers were also key to the victory.

Latrell Sprewell with 23 points led the Tide in scoring, followed by Robert Horry with 19 points and nine rebounds.

North Carolina Tar Heels 64 – Alabama Crimson Tide 55

The 4-seed Tar Heels at 22-9 going into the game, were very good but not one of Dean Smith’s greatest teams. Hubert Davis was a great North Carolina player but the Tide held him to 16 points. Eric Montross was a force on the inside, but only produced 12 points and six rebounds.

The main problem for the Crimson Tide was making shots. A stubborn North Carolina defense smothered Tide shooters, resulting in only 29 percent field goal makes. The Crimson Tide missed 21 threes and was outrebounded. Wimp’s team was scrappy on defense, pressing North Carolina into 23 turnovers. Though the Crimson Tide kept the game competitive, it was never in a position to win.

James Robinson led the Crimson Tide in scoring with 22 points but had to take 23 shots to reach that production.
