Alabama Basketball: Sorry Auburn rolls Toomer’s Corner after Tide loss

Auburn has to celebrate Alabama basketball losses as opposed to their own wins

Auburn can’t help but hate everything Alabama does. While they are used to seeing the football team prevail, they had to suffer through a wild Alabama basketball season as well. With only two SEC losses, Alabama won the regular-season championship and the SEC Tournament. They then made it to the Sweet Sixteen and lost a nail-biter against UCLA in overtime.

After the loss, Auburn rushed to Toomer’s Corner and celebrated in the only way they know how: by throwing toilet paper on a tree. While Auburn usually saves this so-called “tradition” for their wins, they have had to settle for celebrating Alabama losses in recent years.

This should not surprise Alabama basketball fans. Auburn has rolled Toomer’s Corner for losses they were not a part of in the past. It has become as historic of a tradition as the Auburn rolling the trees for their own wins.

Alabama is at the forefront of many sports, and this season from Alabama basketball is simply the start of a new era. While fans would love to have at least some friendly competition, it appears that Auburn cannot do that. It is worth reminding fans that Alabama swept Auburn in basketball this season, and they have beaten them in practically every team sport this academic year.

Also, Auburn had no reason to celebrate their own victories in the NCAA Tournament. After all, they imposed a postseason ban on themselves because of NCAA violations. After their final regular-season game, their season ended as fans had to settle for watching their rivals dominate.

If anything, this shows the gap between Alabama and Auburn. The Tide never stormed the Strip to celebrate an Auburn loss in any sport. It’s human nature to root against your rivals, but the amount of hatred is simply out of balance.

At least Auburn rightfully rolled the trees. In 2019, they thought that they had won a Final Four game and prematurely stormed Toomer’s Corner. They then had to sulk with other fans as they realized that their season was actually over.

This is simply sad behavior by the Auburn Tigers. While Alabama basketball fans celebrate the success from this year, they likely won’t pay attention to how Auburn handles the situation. Again, the Tide haven’t worried about the Tigers since the regular season.
