The Alabama Football team has had some great duos in the last ten years… from running backs to quarterbacks to wide receivers. It’s time for new dynamic duos to arise in 2021.

Many teams can only aspire to have one star player per position group per season… with Alabama Football, there always seem to be pairs of dynamic duos all over the field. For example, the Tide had two-headed monsters at running backs for several consecutive seasons… Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson, Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake, Damien Harris and Josh Jacobs, and more.

In recent seasons, the Tide has been able to extend this characteristic to other position groups. Having Tua and Jalen at quarterback at the same time had to be the most Hollywood story, inspired duo yet.

The wide receiver core has also had some remarkable pairs in recent years. Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs two seasons ago both became first-round draft picks, then DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle last season, who will soon follow.

So, who’s up next?

Alabama Football Wide Receiver

At wide receiver, the next double threat will be John Metchie III and Javon Baker. Metchie experienced a lot of meaningful game time last season when Jaylen Waddle’s season was halted by a leg injury. Metchie averaged 16.7 yards per catch in 2020 racking up 916 yards and six touchdowns on 55 catches.

Javon Baker didn’t see much playing time with Metchie, Smitty, and Bolden stepping in, but the freshman did play in the final nine games of the season recording just two receptions for fifteen yards. Baker was a highly touted recruit coming out of the 2019 class, so look for the sophomore to step up at WR this season alongside now veteran John Metchie.
