2021 NFL Mock Draft 3.0

31. Kansas City Chiefs: Samuel Cosmi, OT, Texas

The Kansas City Chiefs are in the middle of their Super Bowl window. Despite losing to the Bucs, they have what it takes to be a perennial powerhouse thanks to their potent offense. The only key issue that Patrick Mahomes can’t solve is mediocre line play, and we learned this in the Super Bowl.

The Chiefs have made plenty of offensive line moves, so they might be comfortable with where they are currently at. Still, I don’t see what they could want to add besides an offensive lineman. They might want to add a key defensive piece, but Mahomes counterbalances that with his explosive play. You simply have to put him in a situation to succeed, and that’s what Samuel Cosmi does.

Cosmi isn’t perfect, but he is a rotational piece at worst. He was a nice high school prospect, and he is a good size for the NFL. He needs to develop his technique, but he is worth considering in the first round. This is not the first time I selected him in a 2021 NFL mock draft, and it probably won’t be the last.

The Chiefs could add a receiver to replace Sammy Watkins, but they should rely on the development of Mecole Hardman. If they don’t go receiver, adding a lineman makes plenty of sense. With Alabama football’s Landon Dickerson off the board, adding a tackle is a good option.
