2021 NFL Mock Draft 3.0

9. Miami Dolphins: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Due to the quarterback scramble, Miami was able to trade down again. This gives them more capital while also still drafting one of the players they were considering at third overall. In my last 2021 NFL mock draft, I had the Dolphins taking Alabama football’s DeVonta Smith at third overall. Now, they can take him at ninth and add a draft picks to the fold.

This would pair Tua Tagovailoa and DeVonta Smith once again. These Alabama football stars played well together in Tuscaloosa, and pairing them together again makes sense for the Dolphins.

Smith might be undersized, but he doesn’t play like it. His long strides help him gain separation, and he has the strongest hands in the class. He would make Tua’s life a lot easier. After a long rookie season, that’s all you can ask for to help Tagovailoa develop.

Miami added Will Fuller in the offseason, so there is a chance that they won’t be looking to add an outside receiver. They could instead take Alabama football’s Jaylen Waddle. However, the one-year deal will Fuller still leaves a long-term need at receiver, and Smith can play beyond his rookie contract.

Miami is looking to be a top team in 2021. Adding DeVonta Smith will help them get there.
