Alabama Football: Mac rises in 2021 NFL Mock Draft 4.0
By Dakota Cox
3. San Francisco 49ers: Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
Hold on, 49ers fans. I know that you want Justin Fields. Despite being an Alabama football fan, I believe that Fields is the better pick. However, there is no denying that San Francisco is intrigued by Mac Jones at quarterback.
At this point, there is no reason to have a smoke screen. If the 49ers wanted Justin Fields, they could hint at that. Instead, every insider believes they are going to take Jones. It’s like when the New York Giants were linked to Daniel Jones early in the first round. Did it make sense at the time? No. Did they do it? Yes. Will this pay off for San Francisco? Only time will tell.
4. Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
I’m a lot lower on Kyle Pitts than the rest of the NFL draft community, but I see his upside. He is a matchup nightmare with his size and speed, and he has a massive catch radius. While I worry about his ability to separate, there is no doubt that he would thrive alongside two Alabama football receivers in Atlanta. The offense would be so stacked that someone would have to be open on almost every play.
While many want the Falcons to draft a quarterback, they could easily add a weapon after restructuring Matt Ryan’s contract. If they went quarterback, Justin Fields would make a lot of sense.
