Alabama Football: 5 new faces to watch at Tide’s A Day Game
By Dakota Cox
Which Alabama football players should you keep an eye on Saturday?
With spring practices well underway, the defense of Alabama football’s 18th national championship has begun. The Tide lost many key starters, but they have depth at vital positions, and all healthy players will be on display at the 2021 A Day Game.
The A Day Game is a unique chance to show Alabama’s depth as they face off against each other. The Tide will see players who were buried on 2020’s depth chart along with freshmen who enrolled early to attend spring workouts.
Everyone knows the top names to watch. Fans will be cheering for John Metchie, Will Anderson, Christian Harris and Jahleel Billingsley after their dominant 2020 performances. Here are some names who didn’t get much love last year. Fans should keep an eye on them as they work their way up the new depth chart.
5. Cameron Latu, TE
When Latu was recruited, he played on the defensive side of the ball. It took him some time to crack the depth chart as he developed as a tight end, but he appears to be ready to make an impact in 2021.
Latu has been shining during Alabama football’s earlier scrimmages, and he can be a big piece of the Tide’s offense. Billingsley will receive a bulk of the tight end targets, but Alabama used two tight ends a lot last season. With Miller Forristall heading to the NFL, there is a hole in the offense that Cameron Latu can fill.
While Latu might not have a statistically dominant season, the A Day Game will be a chance to show his skills against the Tide’s defense before the spring ends.
