New faces for Alabama football’s A Day Game

3. Javon Baker, WR

Alabama football will miss DeVonta Smith and Jaylen Waddle. With them heading to the NFL, Tide fans will see new faces at wide receiver. John Metchie will easily be WR1, and Slade Bolden will likely start in the slot. However, who will replace Smith?

Alabama will likely use many young players on offense next year, but one potential option is Javon Baker. He only had two catches last season, but his reps were few and far between. He will compete with other sophomores and true freshmen for the last starting spot, and this could be his chance to prove himself.

Two seasons ago, Alabama football fans saw Metchie shine in the A Day Game, but he had to wait his turn to crack the starting lineup. This might be Baker’s chance to shine before starting for the Tide.

Someone will have to step up, and Baker has the inside track. He is a big target that can make aggressive plays. With the speed of Metchie and the shiftiness of Bolden, Alabama could use a big-bodied receiver on the outside.

Expect Baker to start with the first team on offense, and don’t be surprised if he dominates on Saturday. He has what it takes to be special, and this is his first true chance to shine.
