What can Alabama football fans do while at the A-Day Game?

Saturday will be the first time for some Alabama football fans to see their Crimson Tide since 2019. While some traditions hold for every game, there will be some new things to do in Tuscaloosa.

Fans have their favorite restaurants and stores. Besides the traditional pieces of Alabama football games, what else can fans do this Saturday?

Before the game

There will be a few things that are available for Alabama football fans before kickoff. The one yearly tradition every fan cares about happens at Denny Chimes as team captains get to cement their handprint on the quad. Since there was no A Day Game last season, fans will see two years of captains at Denny Chimes. Tua Tagovailoa, DeVonta Smith, Xavier McKinney and Anfernee Jennings were last year’s captains. Smith, Mac Jones, Landon Dickerson and Alex Leatherwood were the captains for Alabama football’s 2020 championship team. This means that Smith will cement his handprints twice. This will take place at 10:50 a.m.

During the game

Fans who attend the A-Day Game will see their beloved Crimson Tide, but they will also see some former players on the sidelines. At the end of the first quarter, DeVonta Smith will be presented with the Maxwell Award. Alabama’s copy of the Heisman Trophy will be awarded at halftime on Saturday as well before he prepares for the NFL draft.

After the game

While fans missed out on a team parade after Alabama football won a national title, last year’s team will be celebrated in Bryant-Denny Stadium at the end of the game. Both Nick Saban and Mac Jones will speak to the fans. This will incentivize fans to stay for the entire game despite the starters likely only playing for the first half.

Other things to know

While not every business promotes special events, it’s safe to say that there will be plenty of giveaways in Tuscaloosa this Saturday. Fans might be able to get posters, koozies, frisbees and other merchandise.
