Alabama Football: What role can Agiye Hall have in 2021?
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football fans want to see Agiye Hall on the field
At this point, Alabama football has experienced a total embarrassment of riches at wide receiver. Going from Julio Jones to Amari Cooper to Calvin Ridley was scary enough. Having four first-round receivers on one roster was the next step, but the Tide still has depth without them.
While John Metchie is clearly WR1, it is clear that Agiye Hall is the future for Alabama at wide receiver. He made many stellar catches during the Tide’s A-Day Game despite being an early enrollee. His freshman season hasn’t even begun, but he already looks like he can contribute for Alabama.
So, what role can Agiye Hall have in his freshman season?
In terms of talent, he can do it all. He can play on the outside and win with agility and body control. He made contested catches despite inaccurate throws. The question comes when you compare Hall to the other receivers on the roster.
As of now, it appears that Traeshon Holden and Javon Baker are ahead of Hall on the depth chart, and Holden had a solid A-Day performance as well. With Alabama’s ability to run 12 personnel, there won’t be many plays where extra receivers are on the field. Still, Hall will likely see some targets in 2021.
Fans knew Metchie would be great after his first A-Day Game, but he had four first-round receivers ahead of him on the roster. While Hall is battling with great receivers, the top-level talent is nowhere near what it was in Metchie’s freshman year.
Because of this, it is fair to believe that Agiye Hall will see the field during key drives for Alabama football this season. If he continues to develop, he could compete for the starting spot. Either way, he will see the field when his unique skills will be what Alabama needs.
