Alabama football breaks record in NFL Mock Draft 5.0

12. Philadelphia Eagles: DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Alabama football’s Heisman winner comes off the board at 12. This seems late, but there are genuine concerns regarding Smitty’s size. He weighed in under 170 lbs, and he would easily be one of the thinnest receivers in the NFL.

To Smith’s credit, he has overcome the size issue at every stage of his life. He has always been undersized, and he simply wins anyway. Even when opposing teams knew that he was the best receiver on the field, he still dominated against NFL corner.

Smith beat Derek Stingley Jr. He beat Shaun Wade. He dominated against Jaycee Horn. These are all players who will be drafted over the next two years, and he consistently won.

When the Eagles traded back, they might have taken themselves out of the race for a receiver. Still, they should consider adding one if they fall. Smith could go as high as 6, but he is the one receiver who is most likely to fall out of the top 10.

Philly needs all sorts of help, but getting Jalen Hurts a reliable weapon should be high on the list. They made the wrong pick last year, and they now have to fix this issue before it ruins Hurts’ development. You can get defensive players later in the draft, but getting one of the top receivers makes plenty of sense if they fall.

Alabama football fans already want Philly to succeed with Jalen. This would just have them double down on their fandom.
