Alabama football breaks record in NFL Mock Draft 5.0

17. Las Vegas Raiders: Christian Barmore, IDL, Alabama

The Raiders have a lot of issues. They could add to their secondary. Linebacker depth would be nice. On offense, they desperately need to retool the offensive line. However, they also desperately need help on the interior of the defensive line.

They can find starters in later rounds, but Barmore is the only guy at defensive tackle who can start as a rookie and have a true impact. He has upside as a pass-rusher, and he has plenty of room to grow as a prospect. He is very young, so he can also develop physically.

The Raiders love players from respected programs. They have drafted an Alabama football player in the first round in each of the past two seasons, but they have also taken players from Ohio State and Clemson. It wouldn’t surprise me if they took another Tide player early in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Barmore was selected as a player to attend the NFL Draft in person, so he is almost a lock to go in the first round. The Raiders are right in the middle of his sweet spot. It would be a great landing spot for Barmore, and he would boost the Raiders on defense.

The Raiders have to do tons if they want to compete in the AFC West, and Barmore wouldn’t be enough to move the needle by himself. However, he is a step in the right direction.
