Alabama football breaks record in NFL Mock Draft 5.0

4. Atlanta Falcons: Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida

This is where things get interesting. The Falcons could use a quarterback in the future, and two great options are on the board. However, they are tied to Matt Ryan for the next few seasons after restructuring his contract. They could look to pivot, but nothing that they’ve done yet points to that being the case.

They could also trade back, but this mock draft has no trades. If they were to trade back, teams like Denver or New England could come up and take their quarterback. The Cowboys could also trade up and take Kyle Pitts.

With no trade back and the likelihood of sticking with Matt Ryan, the Falcons add a weapon to the offense. They have plenty of quality receivers, but Pitts could bring a facet to their offense that has been missing since Tony Gonzalez.

I personally don’t like the idea of drafting a tight end this early, but it feels like the NFL values Pitts higher than I do. If he lives up to the lofty standard placed upon him, he will easily be worth the pick.

Pitts isn’t truly a tight end. He can line up outside and has a well-defined route tree. His hands are stronger than almost anyone, and he makes contested catches on a consistent basis. Still, he will have to prove that he can separate against NFL defenders.
