Two Alabama football quarterbacks could face off in the first week of the NFL season

With the release of the NFL schedule, we can now see when Alabama football alumni will face off on the gridiron. With multiple quarterbacks on NFL rosters, we will get to see more competition between QBs than ever before.

Specifically, we should see plenty of games between Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones. The Pats drafted Jones, and they are in the same division as Tua’s Dolphins. This means their teams will battle twice a year in the regular season as they try to move their way up the AFC East standings.

The first matchup between these two teams will be in the first week of the season, so we could potentially see these former teammates battle it out in Week 1. However, we’ll have to see if Mac Jones wins the job. The Patriots also signed Cam Newton, their starter last season, to a one-year deal.

If Jones doesn’t win the starting job after the preseason, he may also play against the Dolphins in the final week of the regular season. At that point, both teams hope to be clinching playoff berths.

While Tua won the starting job over Mac Jones, there was never a real competition for Alabama football. Tua came into the program ready to play, and Mac Jones needed time to develop. By the time Jones was ready, Tua was already in the NFL. Still, these two players will be compared for the rest of their lives. They were in the same recruiting class. Each of them was a national champion and a Heisman finalist. As soon as Tua broke Alabama football’s passing records, Mac Jones came in and made a name for himself.

If both quarterbacks succeed, we will see plenty of battles between these two players. The earliest it could begin is the first week of Jones’s rookie season, but that won’t be his last chance to square off against Tua Tagovailoa in the NFL.
