Alabama football fans will have to keep waiting

EA Sports officially released their cover athletes for the upcoming video game, but it was not who Alabama football fans wanted to see.

Madden 22 will have both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes on the cover. Both quarterbacks carried their teams to the Super Bowl last year, and they have each been on the cover within the last four years.

Brady and Mahomes are obviously two of the best players in the history of the NFL, but this still feels like a snub for many reasons. Derrick Henry is coming off of a 2000-yard season where he had more yards after contact than almost every other running back had total yards. To put it mildly, Henry was on a different level last year.

There seems to be no slowing down from Henry this season. Thanks to the Titans trading for Alabama football legend Julio Jones, Tennessee will be one of the most-used teams in Madden 22. Henry will be a top player, and he was worthy of being on the cover of Madden 22.

It would also be fitting for him to be on Madden 22 due to him wearing No. 22 for the Titans. There was an opportunity to work that into the cover, but EA Sports went in a different direction.

There were rumors that Henry would be on the cover after a Gamestop leaked a promotion that included him, but this is obviously not the case. Either EA decided to go in a different direction or the promotion was a simple coincidence.

The last Alabama football player to be on the cover of a video game was Mark Ingram on NCAA Football 12. Shaun Alexander was also on the cover of Madden 07, making him the only Alabama football player to grace the cover of Madden.

There is potential for another Alabama football player to inevitably receive this honor, but it appears that fans will have to wait at least one more season.
