Alabama Football: The only NFL team without a Tide player
By Dakota Cox
Only one NFL team is without an Alabama football player on the roster.
Thanks to the Nick Saban era, Alabama football players are all over NFL rosters. The Tide tied the record for most players drafted in the first round of a single draft this season, but fans have seen deep draft classes for over a decade.
Thanks to this, there are more than enough players to field an entire NFL roster. In fact, every NFL team has at least one Alabama football player except for one. The only team without a Tide athlete is the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans has a history of having Alabama football players on the roster. They drafted Mark Ingram out of college, and Vinnie Sunseri was a Saint for a few years. Some would like to count Alvin Kamara as an Alabama player, but his lack of snaps keeps him off the list.
This could change as we get closer to the NFL season. Some teams only have one or two fringe players who could be cut after the preseason, and there are still some Alabama football players available in free agency. The Saints could add a Tide player to complete the set, or other NFL teams could cut their only Alabama player to add to the list.
As the Saints look to rebuild, it seems that they will have better draft capital over the next few years. They could have better chances to draft top Tide talents. For instance, they could take John Metchie in 2022 to add to their receiving corps. Chris Allen would help their edge presence, and they could always use an offensive tackle like Evan Neal.
Alabama has been so close to having a Tide player on every roster, but this is as close as you can get without achieving the milestone. As players stay in the NFL for longer and more Alabama football players get drafted, it seems like it’s only a matter of time until every NFL team has at least one Alabama player.
