Smitty’s still making Alabama football proud

DeVonta Smith might be in the NFL now, but he will always be tied to Alabama football. With so much success, there is no decoupling Smitty from the Crimson Tide. In fact, he is still earning awards from his time in college.

Smith was nominated for two ESPY awards thanks to his record-setting season with Alabama football. The ESPY’s are sports awards presented by ESPN for the best plays, athletes and moments of the year.

Smith won the award for the best male college athlete of the year, which was an easy decision. He already won the Heisman Trophy thanks to what he did as a senior, and no athlete in any other sport compares.

This will be added to Smith’s impressive resume. He has almost every receiving record in Alabama football history. He won the Heisman Trophy on his way to carrying the Tide to another title. His season was unprecedented, and he proved that he is the best of the best.

This is likely the last award Smith will win as an Alabama football player. He will now look to win awards as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. He should have plenty of chances to win over his rookie deal. Depending on how rookie quarterbacks look, he should be in contention to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. He could compete to reach the Pro Bowl at some point if he lives up to the hype.

Smith will be looking to propel his career alongside former Tide QB Jalen Hurts. Hurts needs to prove that he can be a franchise quarterback, and he will rely on his chemistry with Smith to do so. Expectations are low in terms of wins for the Eagles, but both players will set a high standard, and they could help each other achieve their goals.

2020 was DeVonta Smith’s year, and it’s nice to see him recognized one final time before he begins his NFL journey.
