Alabama basketball wants to add one more player

The unique nature of college basketball is that rosters are still rotating as the season approaches. For Alabama basketball, that means that a potential starter could still be added to the roster for the upcoming season.

Alabama saw many players declare for the NBA Draft, but they expected some to return. With Josh Primo keeping his name in the process, Alabama needs more from their returning players. However, there could be another loss to hurt the Crimson Tide.

Jaden Shackelford is in the Transfer Portal. While Alabama remains in play, his options are wide open. To make things easy, Alabam basketball essentially has one hole to fill on the roster. It could be filled by Shack, but Alabama could add another player instead.

There is plenty of talent available in the Transfer Portal. One option is Kevin Obanor. Obanor was a key player for Oral Roberts during their deep run in the NCAA Tournament. However, Cecil Hurt is reporting that Alabama hasn’t recruited Obanor as hard as one would think. Still, he listed Alabama basketball in his final four teams.

Alabama has guard depth for the upcoming season, but they will be replacing almost every key big from the roster. Thankfully, Alex Tchikou will be healthy and ready to go this year. Still, adding depth behind him would be huge for Alabama’s hopes to win the SEC again.

If Alabama can’t get a big, Shackelford might be the best option. He’s a proven shooter, something that is always valuable in Oats’ system. Alabama will be without multiple shooters from last year’s team, so a backcourt of Quinerly and Shackelford would be solid from the perimeter. It would also complement JD Davison’s game as he tries to attack the rim and find open shooters outside.

Fans will have to wait and see who Alabama adds, but there are plenty of solid options out there.
