Who will represent Alabama football in Hoover?

After a year off due to COVID-19, SEC Media Days are back with a vengeance. This year, they will be hosted in Hoover at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wynfrey Hotel. Alabama football will bring two veterans to represent the team as always. This year, the Tide will bring John Metchie and Phil Mathis to Hoover.

Metchie is one of the few returning starters on offense for Alabama football. He’s certainly the biggest name after shining in the absence of Jaylen Waddle last year. In 2021, he will be WR1 for the Tide, and he should be ready for that challenge.

Metchie has what it takes to be a first-round receiver in the upcoming NFL Draft. His speed is strong, and he has some of the best hands in college football. He never gives up on plays, and he’ll get to prove himself against some of the best corners in college football this season.

Phil Mathis will return for his senior season after being a rotational piece on the defensive line last year. With the loss of Christian Barmore, there’s a chance for Mathis to rack up interior pressure and boost his sack totals. However, Alabama football’s defensive line will be incredibly deep. Either way, this shows that Mathis is seen as a leader of the defense and a trusted person in the eyes of Nick Saban.

Both Metchie and Mathis will speak with the media on Wednesday, July 21. Alabama football will share their media day with Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Needless to say, the Tide will be the main event on Wednesday in Hoover.

Coaches usually supply the enlightening sound bytes, but athletes still bring value to the experience. In the very least, it will be a chance for fans to see two of their favorite players in person. While there will be restrictions this year unlike before, fans in attendance can remain outside and see players as they enter the building.
