By Matt Melton
As we are now a month away from the Alabama Football season opener against Miami in Atlanta, we are closer to finding out the exact depth chart going into the 2021 college football season.
When looking at the individual position groups that stick out most going into the season, the Alabama quarterbacks may be one of the most intriguing. As you’ll see, the Crimson Tide display three notable quarterbacks that will be some of the most must-see players on the field this season.
Alabama Football 2021 Season Preview: Quarterbacks
We begin with the most-likely starter for the Crimson Tide under center to begin the 2021 season:
Bryce Young
Class: Sophomore
HT/WT: 6’0, 194 LBs.
Hometown: Pasadena, CA
High School: Mater Dei
Number: 9
Bryce Young enters year No. 2 in Tuscaloosa as the presumed starter after serving as the back-up to Mac Jones a year ago. Young saw the field in nine games last season, finishing the season completing 13-of-22 passes for 156 yards and one TD to pair with nine carries for no yards.
A consensus five-star prospect out of high school, Young was rated as the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2020 where he threw for 13,250 yards and 152 TD’s, while also adding 1,084 rushing yards and 26 TD’s on the ground throughout his high school career. Serving as the starter at national powerhouse Mater Dei for multiple seasons, Young received numerous state and national accolades, while also leading the Monarchs to a state championship in 2018 as a junior, as well as the state championship game in 2019.
When looking at Young for the 2021 season, the sophomore quarterback should takeover as the starter under center for new offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien. While it may take some time for Young to fully get-going in a new offense, the now sophomore quarterback will be a must-see talent from day one.
Prediction for 2021 Season Stat Line:
220/350, 3,500 passing yards, 35 TD, 8 INT, 60 rushes, 200 yards, 6 TD
