5 takeaways from Alabama football vs. Miami
1. Bryce Young is a Heisman candidate
Bryce Young barely got reps last year as the team’s backup. In this game, he dominated. He set the record for passing touchdowns in a debut for Alabama football, and he also threw for more passing yards than any quarterback in their first start with the Tide.
Young was able to manipulate the pocket. He was comfortable scrambling, but he kept his eyes downfield. This led to some of Alabama’s best passing plays on the day.
Now that Young finally has a start under his belt, it is safe to say that he has lived up to the hype so far. It will take time for him to prove himself as a long-term quarterback, but he’s done everything right so far.
Were there mistakes? Sure. He held onto the ball for too long at times and had the one fumble. However, he showed a lot that fans should be excited about. As the season progresses, it appears that Young will be one of the best players in college football.
A quarterback has never won the Heisman Trophy at Alabama, but they have three winners in the Nick Saban era. Bryce Young could make it four.
If Bryce Young keeps performing like this, expect him to make a visit to New York in December.
