Alabama Football: Tide’s report card in win vs. Miami

Alabama football’s report card vs. Miami
Inside Linebackers: B+
If you had told fans last year that they would have to replace Dylan Moses, they would be concerned. However, the Tide are somehow better at inside linebacker despite losing one of the best linebacker prospects in program history.
Christian Harris looks to be one of the best defensive players in the SEC this year, and he will still play his natural position of WILL linebacker. Jaylen Moody has plenty of years in the program, and he adds depth to the position. The new stud is Henry To’o To’o, the Tennessee transfer.
Both Harris and To’o To’o brought pressure on the blitz in this game. D’Eriq King was able to scramble a few times, but he was rarely able to gain first downs with his legs. That’s what you want as an inside linebacker. The To’o To’o injury was concerning, but it appears the Tide will have him back.
Outside Linebackers: A
Alabama brings back both starting outside linebackers, including the best freshman in college football last year. Will Anderson looks to be the best pass-rusher that Saban has ever had, and this year will be where he takes a step forward.
On the first drive, Will Anderson showed his development as an outside linebacker. He was known for his ability to play his assignment and get to the quarterback. In this game, he singlehandedly shut down plays by his ability to dominate the offensive line. He shoved tackles into the backfield, including on a crucial tackle on third down.
While Anderson deserves respect, Chris Allen remains one of the most underrated players of the Tide defense. In the second quarter, he blew by the blocker and got a strip-sack. Phil Mathis recovered the fumble.
The only concern is the extent of Chris Allen’s injury. After forcing the fumble, he went to the sideline and did not return to the game. If he is indeed out for the year, Drew Sanders and Chris Braswell will need to contribute.
