Alabama Football: Week Two College Football Power Rankings
Clemson is still one of the best teams in the country and they will still receive little to no resistance on their way to another ACC championship game. The question at this point is will the teams ahead of Clemson lose enough to put them back in the championship picture. They play zero currently ranked teams the rest of the season, and the only ones that have a chance of becoming ranked before their game are Boston College and Pitt. If the Tigers aren’t 11-1 going into the ACC title game then something went horribly wrong.
The defense is a contender on the national scale. The offense is still one-dimensional, but it has been doing enough to get wins. They still have work to do with Maryland, Penn State, and Wisconsin in the middle of their schedule, but they have the defense to get the job done.
Speaking of good defenses Penn State is another team with a fantastic defense. You can consider the Nittany Lions firmly in the driver’s seat in the BIG10 with Ohio State’s loss this weekend. We will get a sneak peek at how the BIG10 stacks up with the SEC next week when Penn State takes on the Alabama football rival Auburn Tigers.
I thought Cincinnati was going to let me down when I looked up at halftime and saw the score was 7-7 against Murray State. However, the Bearcats went on to win the second half 35-0 in a rout. I stand by this placement of the Bearcats. The defense is solid and Desmond Ridder might mess around and win a Heisman. In three weeks they get to prove that they belong in the national conversation against Notre Dame. The only other teams on the schedule with a pulse are UCF, Tulane, and SMU. With other national powers looking rough to start 2021 could Cincy sneak into the Playoff? I think it is a distinct possibility.
