Crimson Tide vs. Gators – Dec. 6, 2008 – Atlanta

In Nick Saban’s second Tide season, his Alabama Football team almost took down Meyer’s Gators. Urban and the Gators had been National Champions in 2006. The Tide was ranked No. 1 and Florida was No. 2. The Crimson Tide led by three points after three quarters. With a dominant fourth quarter, the Gators pulled away for a 31-20 victory. Though it was not another SEC Championship for the Tide, it was obvious to all that Nick Saban had brought Alabama Football back – sooner than many thought possible. The Gators won the 2008 National Championship.

The roles were slightly reversed in 2009, with Florida holding the No. 1 ranking while the Crimson Tide was No. 2. After a close first half, Alabama took charge of the game in the second half. The 32-13 Tide victory elicited sideline tears from Florida great, Tim Tebow.

A torrent of Alabama Football wins over Florida

The Tide’s current seven-game winning streak began with the 2009 game. In the six wins that followed, arguably all but one were momentous Tide victories. That one was the Tide’s 2016, SEC Championship, 54-16 win over a clearly outmatched Florida team.

The others were:

  • Oct. 2010; Alabama 31 – Florida 6, in Tuscaloosa
  • Oct. 2011; Alabama 38 – Florida 10, in Gainesville
  • Sept. 2014; Alabama 42 – Florida 21, in Tuscaloosa
  • Sept. 2015; Alabama 29 – Florida 15, SEC Championship in Atlanta
  • Dec. 2020; Alabama 52 – Florida 46, SEC Championship in Atlanta
