How did Alabama football look vs. Florida?

Alabama eased through the first two games of their season, but everyone knew that the first test for Alabama football was going to be against Florida. In a rematch of last year’s SEC Championship, the Tide traveled to Gainesville to face off against the undefeated Gators.

This game will be crucial in determining not only divisional champions but the College Football Playoff field. Both teams knew that this was a crucial opportunity, but only one could win.

Here are the grades for each position group in Alabama football’s first true test of the season. They’ll face many more tests in the future, but here is where we are now.

Tight Ends: A-

Last year, Florida was the team with the insane tight end talent. Kyle Pitts torched every defense he faced with his size and athleticism. This year, Alabama had the advantage at the position.

However, the question mark all season has been Jahleel Billingsley. He still hasn’t won the starting job, and he appears to remain in the doghouse. Instead, Cameron Latu has been the X-factor fot Alabama football. He has shown the ability to make plays, but he still lacks the game-breaking skills that Billingsley possesses.

The good news is that Billingsley is out of the dog house. He started the game and caught a clean touchdown early in the game. Pairing this with Cameron Latu was great for Alabama’s offense early. Latu’s drop in the end zone was a bad play, but it wasn’t supposed to go to him in the first play. The blocking can improve, but this was one of the best games from the tight ends this season.
