5 takeaways from Alabama football vs. Florida

1. Alabama is still the best team in the country

This game was uncharacteristic for Alabama football. The offense struggled after three early touchdowns. The refs were calling plenty of penalties on both teams. There were miscommunication errors on both sides of the ball. Florida had the home crowd rocking in the fourth quarter with all the momentum you can imagine.

Still, after all that, Alabama walked away with a win. Only a handful of teams could have done that on Saturday. It wasn’t pretty, but the result was a good one for the Crimson Tide, and that cannot be forgotten.

Other top programs are struggling with inferior opponents. Clemson is averaging 8.5 points per game against Power 5 opponents. Ohio State has already lost once, and they don’t appear ready to beat other top teams anytime soon. The Pac-12 is already a one-team conference again, and Oklahoma has yet to show anything that says they deserve to be in the College Football Playoff.

This is a bit of a down year for college football. The perennial programs are pivoting, and it shows in their play. Still, Alabama remains at the top of the mountain. That doesn’t mean they will end the season there, but they have the best chance to after three weeks of football.

We’ll see what the rest of the season has in store, but Alabama is still trending upward.
