Game Preview: No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide vs Southern Miss Golden Eagles

When: Saturday, September 25 at 7:30 pm ET on SEC Network

Location: Bryant-Denny Stadium, Tuscaloosa, AL

Coming off a tough road-win with yet another massive game looming next weekend, the Alabama Crimson Tide return home Saturday for the first night-game of the season against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles.

Alabama as mentioned previously is coming off a 31-29 road-win last Saturday against Florida, the Crimson Tide’s second ranked win of the season. Despite a fast-start in the contest, the Crimson Tide slowed-down a bit on both sides of the ball as the game went on, something Alabama will want to fix with two massive back-to-back games looming over the next two weeks on the schedule.

The Crimson Tide currently sit at 3-0, as well as ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll. Alabama has dominated the previous meetings between the two winning the last seven contests (most recently 49-7 in 2019), as well as holding a 37-5-2 lifetime record against the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss comes to Tuscaloosa after suffering a 21-9 home loss against Troy last week. This was the first game for the Golden Eagles under a new quarterback, but also saw struggles elsewhere, in particular pass-blocking as they allowed nine sacks a weeks ago.

In addition to last week’s loss, the Golden Eagles currently sit at 1-2 overall holding a win over Grambling State, as well as a loss at South Alabama. Southern Miss is in year one under new head coach Will Hall, and has looked impressive in some areas so-far this season, in particular rush defense.
