Southern Miss Golden Eagles Players to Watch
RB Frank Gore Jr
Arguably the Golden Eagles top overall player is Gore Jr. Gore Jr is by-far Southern Miss’ leading rusher having carried the ball 55 times this season for 274 yards and a touchdown, while also having caught seven passes for 73 yards.
QB Ty Keyes
With previous starter Trey Lowe suffering an injury in the Golden Eagles Week 2 matchup, Keyes has taken over as the starter since. The freshman started last weeks 21-9 loss to Troy where he completed 16 of 27 passes for 157 yards and two interceptions, while also being sacked nine times.
DL Josh Carr Jr
Carr leads Southern Miss with a team-high 2.5 sacks on the season. The junior has amassed 11 total tackles through the first three games.
DB Malik Shorts
Arguably the Golden Eagles top player in the secondary, Shorts leads the team with 17 total tackles. Shorts has also amassed a by-far team-high six passes defensed.
LB Averie Habas
Southern Miss has multiple talented linebackers with Habas as arguably the top pass-rusher of the group. Through three games so far, the sophomore has totaled 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
DL Eriq Kitchen
Ranking second on the Golden Eagles in sacks with two, Kitchen is also one of Southern Miss’ top pass-rushers on the defensive line alongside Carr. The senior has totaled seven tackles this season.
WR Jakarius Caston
Tied for second on the team with seven catches, Caston leads the Golden Eagles with 88 receiving yards. Caston has recorded one touchdown, as well as averaging 12.6 yards per catch.
LB Santrell Latham
Another one of the Golden Eagles talented linebackers is Latham. The junior ranks second on Southern Miss with 13 tackles, while also having two forced fumbles and one pass defensed.
WR Jason Brownlee
Brownlee currently leads Southern Miss with a team-high eight receptions. With that sample size, Brownlee has added 44 receiving yards and a touchdown.
WR Demarcus Jones
Jones has caught seven passes this season for a total of 77 yards. The junior is currently averaging 11 yards per catch with his longest reception going for 31 yards.
