No. 3 – Take your pick South Carolina offensive assistant

No fault can be applied to Shane Beamer, but the Gamecocks offense is stunningly bad. Check out these stats from ESPN.

  • No. 13 in the SEC in average yards per game (328.4 yards)
  • No. 12 in the SEC in passing yards per game (207.4 yards)
  • No. 11 in the SEC in rushing yards per game (121 yards). This stat can only be compared to 13 SEC teams because Mike Leach has such little interest in running the football. The Gamecocks have one rushing touchdown in five games.
  • No. 13 in the SEC in points per game (22.4 points)

Offensive assistant’s heads will roll at South Carolina. It is only a matter of how many and when. At risk are OC/QB coach, Marcus Satterfield. RB coach, Montario Hardesty and OL coach, Greg Adkins. For each, their job security may come down to whether they are lead recruiters for any top prospects.

No. 2 – Missouri Defensive Coordinator – Steve Wilks

Eli Drinkwitz has made one move with the defensive line coach. If the Tigers defense does not improve quickly, Missouri’s preseason optimism may crash into a season that could end up 5-7. The Tigers rushing defense stats were weak before the Tennessee debacle. Now they are dead last among SEC football teams at 306.6 yards per game and also last in allowing 38 points per game.

Steve Wilks has eight previous college coaching stops. He has also coached for five NFL teams, including one season as Head Coach for the Arizona Cardinals in 2018. Wilks may make it until late November, but short of a major turn-around, his time in Columbia is short.
