No. 1 SEC Football Hot Seat – Ed Orgeron

The mess in Baton Rouge keeps getting worse. Before the season, it was off the field. It has now spread into a downward spiral Ed Orgeron will not be able to reverse.

Almost sadly, the dumpster fire cliche is appropriate for the LSU program. Other than being carried by the talents of two assistants in a magical 2019 season, Ed Orgeron has done nothing to show he has the stuff required in top, head football coaches. Firing his offensive line coach in the summer was another glaring example of his mismanagement. A spring under one offensive line system was cast aside in the process, and another system had to be learned.

For that and other reasons, the LSU offense has deteriorated into whatever Max Johnson can weave into a passing attack while trying to escape frequent pressure. The Tigers running game is a joke. Mississippi State is last in rushing offense in the SEC because of Mike Leach’s scheme. LSU is next to last (66.2 yards-per-game) because it cannot run.

What was supposed to be one of the best secondary’s in the SEC is last in pass defense, at 248 yards-per-game.

Firing more assistants in Baton Rouge is not the answer.

How bad is the mood in Baton Rouge? Check out what LSU fan site Death Valley Voice has to say.

"LSU football has no choice — Ed Orgeron has to be fired. LSU knows what it has to do. They just have to decide when to do it."

A little humor from the weekend was a tweet suggesting both an LSU exit and the USC vacancy involve Ed Orgeron.
