Week six of college football does not have many undefeated versus undefeated matchups. What it has is a menu of many interesting games, that run the gamut from winless teams facing off to, of course, the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M.
From a national perspective and Playoff picture, the biggest game of the weekend is the Saturday at 3:00 PM CST contest between No. 3 ranked Penn State and No. 4 ranked Iowa. The Hawkeyes are at home and are a slight favorite to knock off the Nittany Lions.
The weekend kicks off Thursday night with former Alabama Football staffer and former Tennessee, head coach, Butch Jones hosting Coastal Carolina. According to WynnBET, the Chanticleers are favored by 20 points, with an over-under of 73 points. The way Jones’ Arkansas State team has allowed points this season, Coastal Carolina might ring up 70 points by themselves.
College Football Week Six Saturday morning games
On Saturday morning, former Alabama Football assistant, Mel Tucker and Michigan State look to remain undefeated, while on the road against Rutgers. Also two 4-1, Big Ten face teams off, and the records don’t indicate an even game. Ohio State should handle Mike Locksley’s Maryland team easily. Alabama Crimson Tide fans will be rooting for Taulia Tagovailoa to have another big game.
Arkansas takes on Ole Miss in Oxford. Much will be learned about the competitive character of these two teams after their disappointing losses to the Georgia Bulldogs and the Crimson Tide.
The Red River Showdown gives Steve Sarkisian a chance to show how much he has improved the Texas Longhorns. If the Oklahoma Sooners defense cannot slow Bijan Robinson, the Horns have a chance at an upset.
College Football Week Six Saturday afternoon games
The big game Saturday afternoon is down on the Plains. Can the Auburn offense score on Kirby Smart’s defense? Bulldogs’ QB, J.T. Daniels is expected to miss another game. Without him, the tough Auburn defense could make the game interesting. The Tigers offense is not expected to produce enough points to make the game close in the second half.
BYU and SMU should have little trouble keeping their undefeated records intact. The Cougars host Boise State and SMU is on the road against Navy.
Also in the afternoon slate, U Mass and U Conn will try to define who is the worst FBS team. The two teams are a combined 0-11 and exist in a different world than Alabama Football. The Huskies gave Vandy a tough game last Saturday. The Dores won on a field goal from former Alabama Crimson Tide kicker, Joseph Bulovas.
College Football Week Six Saturday night games
LSU travels to Lexington needing a win badly, after collapsing against Auburn last week. Mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats team has a good chance to remain undefeated. An anemic LSU rushing attack will have a tough time with the Kentucky defense.
The Crimson Tide in College Station rounds out a great weekend of college football.
Less than a month from now, the first Collge Football Playoff rankings will be released. Starting next week, Bama Hammer will provide a weekly prediction of the top eight teams with Playoff chances.
