The Alabama Crimson Tide dropped from the list of unbeaten teams, going down in College Station. The Georgia Bulldogs reinforced their status as the nation’s best team. Sliding in the polls was inevitable for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but with half a regular season to go, many more of the 13 FBS, undefeated teams will go down.

In a subsequent post, Bama Hammer will take a deep dive into Playoff implications after week six of college football.

A weekly reminder to Alabama Crimson Tide and other SEC fans, these rankings are based on current resumes from six weeks of play. Other than the projected win ceilings, the rankings are not predictions of future performance.

Week Six SEC Football Power Rankings

No. 14 – Vanderbilt Commodores (2-4); (0-2 in SEC) – (Last week, No. 14); Predicted regular season ceiling – 2 wins; Next Game at South Carolina

In The Swamp, Vanderbilt was outclassed by the Florida Gators. Dan Mullen appeared to concentrate on developing Emory Jones’ passing game with 22 attempts that generated 273 yards. Jones’ stats were enhanced by a 61-yard touchdown reception from running back, Dameon Pierce. Backup QB, Anthony Richardson added six attempts with four completions. Both Gator quarterbacks threw an interception. Former Alabama Crimson Tide placekicker, Joseph Bulovas missed three field goals for the Dores. Final Score Florida 42 – Vanderbilt 0

If the Dores are going to get an SEC win, it had better happen in week seven.

No. 13 –  South Carolina Gamecocks (3-3); (0-3 in SEC); Last week No. 13; Predicted regular season ceiling – 5 wins; Next Game, home for Vanderbilt

The Vols almost ran the Gamecocks out of Neyland Stadium, exploding to a 28-0 first-quarter lead. The Vols went up 35-0 before South Carolina scored. South Carolina narrowed the lead to 38-20 and with just over seven minutes left in the game. Shane Beamer gambled on fourth down inside his own 40. The desperate move failed and the Vols scored again with the short field opportunity. The Gamecocks still need offensive improvement to be competitive. Final Score: Tennessee 45 – South Carolina 20.

No. 12 – Missouri Tigers (3-3); (0-2 in SEC) – Last week No. 12;  Predicted regular season ceiling – 5 wins; Next Game, home for Texas A&M

The Saturday before last, the Missouri defense took a day off against Tennessee. The Vols had 683 yards of offense, 458 of it on the ground. Last Saturday’s win over North Texas was a must-win but the Mean Green are so bad, the game provided no clues to the Tigers going forward.  Missouri coach, Eli Drinkwitz is now past his honeymoon period in Columbia. His offense is good enough but the defense is terrible. North Texas scored 21 fourth-quarter points against the Tigers. Final Score Missouri 48 – North Texas 35
