Alabama Football: A recruiting opportunity vs. Tennessee
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football is always recruiting
When you are the best program in the history of college football, you expect to be in the headlines every day. This turns every second into a recruiting opportunity for Alabama football. Recruits will talk about how you play and if they should come together to play for you, and they will watch all of your games while they try to make that decision.
In the eyes of one high-level recruit, the upcoming game against Tennessee might matter more than the others.
Arch Manning will be one of the highest-rated recruits in the history of college football by the time he graduates high school. The star quarterback has family ties to many schools, including Tennessee. Many expect him to strongly consider the Vols, but he is also in the hunt to play for Alabama football and a few other schools. He visited Alabama when they hosted Ole Miss, another school where Manning has family ties.
Tennessee is under fire right now after losing at home to Ole Miss and having fans throw trash onto the field in the fourth quarter. It was one of the worst scenes in college football, and it puts the Vols in a bad light.
Another poor performance would send Tennessee spiraling after a strong start to the year. Alabama needs to win this game for the sake of the rivalry and to keep their CFP hopes alive, but it will also help them prove that they are a prime destination for Arch Manning and other recruits.
This is Alabama’s homecoming, so expect the atmosphere to be electric. If the Tide win, they will have the infamous cigar smoke billow from the stadium. If Tennessee loses, reality will come crashing down.
Can Alabama prove in one game that Manning and other recruits should commit to the Tide? No. Still, this is another opportunity for Saban and Alabama football to show that they are an elite team. That will be a step in the right direction, and embarrassing a rival will be icing on the cake.
