Alabama football needed redemption against Mississippi State

Alabama football suffered their first loss against an unranked team since 2007 last week, and they put the rest of their season in jeopardy. Despite controlling their own destiny, the Crimson Tide needed to make a statement to show that they are still one of the best teams in college football.

The week after playing an unranked Texas A&M team on the road at night, Alabama played an unranked Mississippi State team on the road at night. There was plenty that could have gone wrong, but Alabama needed a dominant performance to steady the ship.

It wasn’t perfect, but Alabama football did dominate against Mississippi State. They scored on offense and defense, and they fixed a lot of mistakes they had against Texas A&M.

How did Alabama football look against the Mississippi State Bulldogs? Here is the weekly report card for the Crimson Tide in Starkville.

Tight Ends: C

Last week, the tight end play was abysmal. There were too many drops, and this limited what the Tide could do on offense as a whole. The offense wasn’t the only problem, but drops kept them from completely torching the Aggies.

Alabama has two tight ends who can take over the game, and they need more from them in clutch situations. In this game, they were not in a clutch situation. However, neither tight end reeled in a catch. They were barely targeted. Some of this was by design, but they also struggled to get separation.

The blocking was solid, but Alabama has two playmakers at tight end. Neither of them made played on the road in this one.
