Alabama football’s report card vs. Mississippi State

Running Backs: A-

Brian Robinson has turned into a bell cow for the Crimson Tide this season. The Tide usually like to use a few backs, but they changed their strategy with the emergence of Robinson and the injury of Jase McClellan.

Still, Alabama is in search of a receiving back to impact the game on third downs. Roydell Williams has seen more reps, but Trey Sanders has still flown under the radar. It will be interesting to see if Robinson keeps the lion’s share of touches as the season progresses.

In this game, Robinson saw an even higher percentage of the offensive snaps. He played with great patience and strength. When Roydell got garbage snaps, he played well. It wasn’t an elite day for the running backs, but it was a successful one beyond any doubt.

Wide Receivers A

There is no doubt that Jameson Williams is now Alabama football’s top wide receiver. While John Metchie has all the potential in the world, his drops have been a genuine concern this year, and Williams has been a consistent option instead.

Expect more young receivers to play as the season progresses. JoJo Earle has gotten more reps in the slot, but there is plenty of depth that has yet to see significant snaps. Even with this expectation, you need more plays to be made by the veterans. Metchie stepped up on the first drive once he got the football in his hands.

As the game progressed, Metchie looked like his old self in a good way. He was consistently making plays with the ball in his hands, and there was no answer for him. Jameson Williams had another great day as well, and the younger guys saw some reps in this game.
