Alabama football’s report card vs. Mississippi State
QBs: A
Bryce Young is a great quarterback, and he’s had to overcome a lot of errors by his teammates. In the loss against Texas A&M, he was not the problem. There were a few passes that could have been more accurate, but he did more than enough to put the offense in a position to succeed. There just wasn’t a high enough level of execution beyond him.
In this game, Young led an early touchdown drive. He showed poise to avoid the pass rush and still throw a nice pass. He ended the game with almost 350 passing yards and three touchdowns. He distributed the ball well and used his legs more than he usually does. All things considered, this was a great game for Young.
Alabama has weapons, and Bryce Young gave them chances to make plays. In this game, that is all you need. He avoided any major errors and hit his open receivers in stride.
Punter: A-
Alabama football has been punting more this year than they have in the past. While that is concerning, the Tide also have a better punter this year. Burnip has good placement with his punts, and he proved that by booting one inside the 10.
Grading punters for Alabama football is always difficult. They barely see action, so their sample size is too small to truly grade. Still, Burnip had one great punt.
Kicker: P
Will Reichard drilled all of his extra points and didn’t have to attempt a field goal. It feels wrong to give him an A without kicking a field goal, but it also feels wrong to give him anything less when he did everything asked of him. Because of that, I’ll say he passed.
This was a good game for Alabama football as a whole. They bounced back from the loss and have momentum heading into a true rivalry game.
