Alabama Basketball in the NBA: 2021-22 Season Preview

With the 2021-22 NBA season set to begin this week, Alabama Basketball has a total of seven former players that will taking the court this season with various teams across the country. Here is a look at each of those seven players 2020-21 season recaps, as well as a short outlook for the 2021-22 season.

PG Collin Sexton – Cleveland Cavaliers

Arguably the Crimson Tide’s greatest former player currently at the next level, Collin Sexton enters year four of his young NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

2020-21 Season Recap

Sexton enjoyed a phenomenal year three in the NBA a year ago where he averaged a career-high 24.3 PPG, which ranked 18th among all players in the NBA. Sexton also averaged career-highs with 4.4 APG and 47.5% shooting from the field, as well as also averaging 3.1 RPG, 1 SPG, and shot 37.1% from three-point range.

Team Outlook

The Cavaliers have not made the playoffs since the 2017-18 campaign, the season before Cleveland selected Sexton in the 2018 NBA Draft. Finishing with a 22-50 record a year ago good for 13th in the Eastern Conference, the Cavaliers should be better this season, and could potentially contend for a playoff spot in the East.

2021-22 Outlook

Sexton has led the Cavaliers in scoring in two of his three seasons in Cleveland, and will likely make it a fourth this season. A candidate to make his first-career All-Star appearance a year ago, Sexton will likely be in the same conversation this season, as well as the focal-point for the Cavaliers as one of the most-exciting young guards in the game.

Prediction for 2021-22 Season Stat Line: 23.2 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 4.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 47.8 FG%, 38.3 3P%, 82.6 FT%
