Alabama Crimson Tide: Week Seven SEC Power Rankings
By Ronald Evans
Alabama Crimson Tide makes a statement
No. 2 – Alabama Crimson Tide (6-1) (3-1 in SEC); Last week No. 2; Predicted regular season ceiling – 11 wins; Next Game, Tennessee in Tuscaloosa
An angry Alabama Crimson Tide is not a team any opponent wants to face. Mike Leach knew what was coming to Starkville, even if his players did not. The rejuvenated Crimson Tide defense suffocated the Bulldogs’ offense. Will Anderson Jr. admonished and challenged his teammates all week. Saturday night, his play did the talking, getting four sacks against an offensive scheme designed to throw quickly.
Anderson said last week,
"We have to do a better job. Football has to be the most important thing, that’s what I expressed to the team. That’s what it has to be."
He also said such attention to detail and focus is what would happen going forward. If Anderson and the Crimson Tide defense can deliver on that claim, the Tide offense has plenty of firepower to beat any team. Inside linebacker, Henry To’o To’o, also had a big game against the Bulldogs, totaling 13 tackles. To’o To’o earned the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week. It should have been given to Will Anderson as well.
No. 1 – Georgia Bulldogs (7-0); (5-0 in SEC); Last week No. 1; Predicted regular season ceiling – 12 wins; Next Game, BYE, then the Florida Gators
Georgia’s resume and undefeated record make them a clear No. 1 in the SEC and in the nation. Stetson Bennett is making Georgia fans forget about J.D. Daniels and the Dawgs appear to be better without Daniels. Kirby’s team has overcome injuries. The defense is sensational.
It is a long way off but the SEC Championship game is looking like it should be designated a National Championship game.
It is Tennessee week in T-Town. Later in the week, we’ll update the thousands of days since the Vols have beaten the Alabama Crimson Tide.
