Alabama Basketball 2021-22 Season Preview: Guards
By Matt Melton
Keon Ellis
Ellis enjoyed a strong first season with the Crimson Tide a year ago after transferring to Alabama from Florida Southwestern State. Appearing in 32 games last season, Ellis averaged 5.5 PPG and 4 RPG on 50.4% shooting from the field, as well as 38.9% from three.
Coming to Alabama as one of the top overall junior college players in the country, Ellis made a massive impact for the Crimson Tide on both ends of the court last season, including even starting in each of Alabama’s last five contests. A former four-star prospect, Ellis is also a former Second-Team NJCAA All-American, as well as the Florida Southwestern State single-season scoring record holder with 562 points in 2020.
Likely cemented as the Crimson Tide’s starting small forward entering the 2021-22 season, the senior will likely play a massive role for this Alabama team as one of the most-impactful players in the SEC on both offense and defense. When looking at potential breakout candidates for this Alabama team as well, don’t be surprised if Ellis takes a massive jump from last season to now.
2021-22 Season Prediction: 11.2 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 2.1 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.6 BPG, 48.4 FG%, 39.2 3P%, 74.7 FT%, SEC All-Defense
